A Tribute to Tim Curry

Today, the pirate community lowers its colours in honour of Tim Curry, who passed away at the age of 80.

For pirates around the world, Tim Curry will always have a special place in our hearts. From the stage, where he portrayed The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, to television and film, Curry brought a unique energy, charisma, humour and unmistakable voice to the world of pirates. And for an entire generation of young buccaneers, his unforgettable portrayal of Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island became one of the great cinematic pirate performances. Curry himself had wanted to play Long John Silver, and he gave the character a wonderful mixture of charm, danger, humour and heart.

Tim Curry was far more than an actor who played pirates. He was a master of transformation a performer who could make audiences laugh, cheer, fear and dream. His work across theatre, television, cinema and voice acting touched generations and helped keep the spirit of adventure alive. Today, we raise our tankards to a remarkable entertainer and fellow friend of the pirate imagination.
